Three men allegedly drove their car into a metal barricade outside the home of Sam Bankman-Fried’s parents, where he is currently under house arrest, SBF lawyers say.
In a federal court filing, lawyers for the former FTX CEO said the three men got out of the car after hitting the barricade and told a security guard guarding the house: “You’re not going to be able to stop us.”
The unknown trio then managed to drive away before security could record the car’s license plate.
According to Reuters messagethe incident was described in a January 19 court filing, which they said underscored the security risks facing the FTX founder and those associated with him, including the two people who secured the $250 million Bankman-Fried bond, saying:
“Given the notoriety of this case and the extraordinary media attention it is receiving, it is reasonable to assume that non-maternal guarantors will also face significant privacy and security concerns if their identities are made public.”
However, the lawyers did not specify the date or time when the incident occurred.
On January 12, lawyers representing some of America’s biggest media outlets — including Bloomberg, CNBC, Reuters and the Financial Times — wrote a letter to U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan ask for names of guarantors.
Lawyers for the media argued that the public’s right to know Bankman-Fried’s guarantors far outweighed their rights to privacy and security.
Because Bankman-Fried shares close ties to some of the wealthiest and most politically connected individuals on the planet, lawyers argued that such non-disclosure could undermine public trust in American government institutions.
Bankman-Fried was extradited to the US in December and he pleaded not guilty to all eight counts of fraud and conspiracy brought against him on January 3, 2023.
