Cattle bounce more over the weekend

Live cattle futures found some balance to close Friday, with gains of 15 cents to $1. December was down $2.20 for the week. Cash trading was reported between $225 and $227 this week nationwide, and some at $228 in the South. Some late Northern sales cost between $218 and $222. Feeder cattle futures posted gains of between $1.50 and $2.10 at the close. January held a 97 cent gain this week despite a couple of limits moving both up and down. The CME Feeder Cattle Index rose again $1.31 to $343.73 on November 13.

USDA wholesale boxed beef prices were weaker in Friday afternoon’s report, narrowing the Chc/Sel spread to $16.49. Choice boxes were down $2.84 to $370.73, while Select was down 79 cents to $354.24. USDA federally inspected cattle slaughter for this week was 576,000. This is 16,000 head more than last week and 32,810 head less than the same week last year.

November 25 Fattening Cattle closed at $338,675, an increase of $1,675,

January 26 Fattening Cattle closed at $320,550, an increase of $2,100,

Mar 26 Fattening cattle closed at $313,350, an increase of $1,575,
