Foreman from Georgia Grand Jury who investigated the former president Donald Trump and allies for interference in elections in the 2020 presidential race, said jurors are recommending prosecutors charge multiple people with a range of crimes. new message Tuesday.
Foreman Emily Kohrs was coy when asked if the grand jury urged indictment in its final report Trump himself in connection with his efforts to overthrow his elections loss in georgia, The New York Times reported.
“You won’t be shocked. It’s not rocket science,” Kohrs said in the report in response to a question about Trump’s accusations.
“You won’t be too surprised,” added Kohrs, who did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
Kohrs told the newspaper that the number of people the grand jury has recommended to be indicted “is not a short list.” But she didn’t want to identify them.
“I will tell you that if the judge makes a recommendation, it’s not going to be a giant conspiracy,” she told the Times. “You probably have a good idea of what might be there. I’m trying to say it gently.”
The names of those recommended for prosecution and the numbers recommended in the grand jury’s final report remain sealed by court order.
Fulton County State’s Attorney Fani Willis has not yet announced whether she will charge people in the investigation.
But part of the grand jury report released last week said jurors concluded that “one or more witnesses” may have lied under oath when they testified before the jury last year. A grand jury recommended that Willis be prosecuted for perjury in those cases.
“I fully stand by our report as our decision and our conclusion,” Kohrs said The Associated Press in the interview.
Willis has been investigating Trump, his campaign lawyers and others since early 2021 for their attempts to reverse his loss to President Joe Biden in Georgia.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing.
