Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg sent an email to his staff on Saturday assuring them that their safety is the former president’s “top priority” Donald Trump he called to his supporters protest over his alleged impending indictment.
“We do not tolerate attempts to intimidate our office or threaten the rule of law in New York,” Bragg said in a statement obtained by NBC News from a senior official in the Manhattan DA’s office.
Bragg’s office is investigating Trump’s connection to a covert payment to porn star Stormy Daniels during his first run for president in 2016. Trump said in a social media post on Saturday that he expected to be arrested on Tuesday, citing leaks from the “corrupt” DA’s office . He called on his supporters to protest on his behalf.
“THE LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE AND FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL BE ARREST TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social early Saturday morning. “PROTEST, TAKE BACK THE NATION!”
Grand Jury heard testimony related to the state’s 2016 payroll Criminal court in lower Manhattan, but no public statements have been made about when or if Trump will be indicted. Law enforcement agencies throughout New York were take safety precautions in case the former president is criminally charged.
Bragg’s email did not directly mention Trump or his comments, but assured employees that he is “committed to maintaining a safe work environment.” Email was first reported by a user Politics. Bragg said his office will continue to coordinate with officials from the NYPD and the Office of Judicial Administration.
“Our law enforcement partners will ensure that any specific or credible threats to the agency are fully investigated and that appropriate safeguards are put in place to ensure that all 1,600 of us have a safe work environment,” Bragg wrote.
