Amazon layoffs affect its Buy with Prime unit

Amazon is laying off some employees in its Buy with Prime unit, the company confirmed, as it continues to look for ways to cut costs.

The cuts affect less than 5% of the Buy with Prime division’s staff, Amazon said. Shopping with Prime is a service that allows online stores to offer the same two-day shipping benefits available to Prime subscribers. Amazon has expanded the program since its launch in April 2022, including agreements with buy and Sales force.

Amazon did not say how many employees there are in its Shop with Prime segment.

“We regularly review the structure of our teams and make adjustments based on business needs, and following a recent review, we made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles on our Shop with Prime team,” an Amazon said. the spokesperson said in a statement.

The spokesperson said Shopping with Prime remains “a top priority for Amazon” and that the company plans to continue investing “significant resources” into the program.

Some of the affected employees worked in Amazon’s multichannel fulfillment unit, which sits alongside Buy with Prime under the “Project Santos” organization, overseen by Peter Larsen, the company’s longtime vice president, a person with knowledge said. of the cuts. Multi-channel fulfillment allows merchants to ship and store products using Amazon services regardless of whether they are sold at the originating site.

Amazon has cut more than 27,000 jobs companywide as part of rolling layoffs that began in late 2022. Job reductions have continued this year, with Amazon laying off staff from its Prime Video, MGM, Twitch, Audible and Amazon Pay last week. Other technology companies, including Googlediscord, photocopy and Unit They have also announced layoffs since the start of the new year.

Amazon said it is helping Buy with Prime employees who were laid off find new roles elsewhere in the company. Employees will continue to receive their salary and benefits for at least 60 days and will be eligible for a severance package.
