Dr. Anthony Fauci will deliver what is expected to be his last public briefing on the Covid-19 pandemic as the White House’s chief medical adviser on Tuesday.

Fauci announced earlier this year that he resigns in December after serving for more than two years as the public face of the United States’ response to the coronavirus pandemic.

He will provide up-to-date information alongside Dr. Ashish Jha, head of the White House Covid Task Force. They are expected to encourage people to get vaccinated against Covid and flu as soon as possible.

Public health officials have repeatedly warned that the US is likely to face another wave of Covid this winter as people travel and gather for the holidays.

The US is already facing a tough flu season with hospitalizations at a ten-year high.

And respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, is also hospitalizing children at a much higher rate than in pre-pandemic periods.

Hospitals and emergency departments are increasingly taxed by people seeking treatment for respiratory illnesses.

Children’s Hospitals challenged the Biden administration last week declare a public health emergency to provide more flexibility in dealing with patient influx.
