BEIJING – Chinese President You are Jinping is going to visit Russia from March 20 to 22, This was announced by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday.
This is Xi Jinping’s first visit to Russia since the invasion of Ukraine at the end of February last year.
The the two leaders last met in Samarkand, Uzbekistan in September.
The ministry said the visit was made at the request of Russian President Vladimir Putin. She did not specify whether Putin would meet Xi.
The two leaders are expected to discuss further Sino-Russian cooperation, the Kremlin said in a statement, adding that “important bilateral documents will be signed,” without elaborating.
The visit comes as China again called for a ceasefire in the Russo-Ukrainian war and peace talks to resolve the conflict that began more than a year ago.
Beijing refused to call Moscow’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine an invasion.
