DeFi Issues and Opportunities in 2023. Markets

by SuperiorInvest

In this week’s episode of Market Talks, Cointelegraph welcomes Grant Shears, founder of Blocmates – an education and consulting company dedicated to creating crypto, DeFi and Web3 content that everyone can understand.

This week we start off by looking at the emerging trends of 2023 and what people should be looking forward to. Which industries could really take off this year, and which could have the most potential for growth?

It’s no secret that 2022 was not a great year for DeFi, an industry that arguably collapsed in on itself by offering unsustainably high returns that ultimately caused the model to collapse. We ask Shears if there are any projects planned to fix this problem this year, and what that fix might look like.

Traditional finance (TradFi) seems to have caught up with DeFi as yields have risen from around 1% to 3.5% – and in some cases to 4.65%. Not to mention, TradFi comes with a sense of security and safety. Compared to DeFi, where users have to take higher risk to get higher returns, there are lower risks. We’re asking Shears to shed some light on how DeFi can take hold in this environment.

Have you ever heard of NFT-Fi? No? You are not alone. Although it has been around since 2020, it hasn’t been talked about much or its potential. We discuss what it is and what problems it aims to solve.

Next up is good old fashioned technical analysis. Let’s take a look at Bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH) and several altcoins to see what fundamentals Shears is currently tracking and trading in this current market. We also discuss the recent rise in Bitcoin prices and whether this was a trend shift or just another bull trap.

People are excited about the new Stake ETH unlocks coming with the Shanghai upgrade. We get Shears’ thoughts on the upgrade and whether this could be another “buy the rumor, sell the news” situation like the Merge, or the catalyst for another DeFi bull run.

And finally, the age-old question, What will bring people back to cryptocurrencies? Will 2023 be the year investors start to take interest in the space again, or will we have to wait until 2024 for some real action in the space?

Be sure to stay tuned until the end to get all these stats and more. We’ll also be taking your questions and comments during the show, so get them ready.
