The former US prosecutor of the East district of Virginia Jessica Aber was found dead in Alexandria on Saturday morning, police said. She was 43 years old.
Police discovered Aber’s body while responding to a report from a woman who does not respond around 9:20 am, said Alexandria’s police department in a statement.
Police did not indicate whether they believed that death suspected and said that the foreign doctor’s office would determine the cause and form of death.
“As a matter of protocol, investigation is being carried out around the circumstances of his death,” police said.
Aber resigned as US prosecutor on January 20, the day President Donald Trump was inaugurated.
It was appointed by President Joe Biden on August 10, 2021, and was then confirmed by the Senate.
Aber had been an assistant prosecutor of the United States for the district since 2009 and was deputy director of the criminal division before being appointed US prosecutor, says his department biography.
The United States lawyers are appointed politicians and can be eliminated at the president’s will. Trump said in February in Truth Social that “he instructed the termination” of all the remaining American prosecutors under Biden.
The US prosecutor of the district, Erik S. Siebert, said he and the office were disconsolate by Aber’s death.
“She had no comparison as a leader, mentor and fiscal, and is simply irreplaceable as a human being,” he said in a statement.
“I loved Edva and Edva loved her,” Siebert wrote.
The American attorney general Pamela Bondi also expressed her condolences, saying: “The loss of Jessica Aber, former US prosecutor for the Eastern district of Virginia, is deeply tragic.”
“Our hearts and prayers are with their family and friends during this deeply difficult moment,” Bondi said.
