Human ID Project ‘Worldcoin’ Launches Gas-Free Wallet For Humans Only

by SuperiorInvest

Worldcoin, a project to identify humans and distinguish them from artificial intelligence, has launched a gas-free cryptocurrency wallet for verified humans, according to a May 8 announcement.

The new wallet called “World App” works on Android and iOS operating systems. Currently running on Polygon (MAT), which allows users to hold and transfer US dollar coins (USDC), Dai (DAI), Ether (ETH), Worldcoin (WLD) and Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC).

The World application uses the project’s “World ID” system for this distinguish between humans and robots. Users who want to use gas-free transfers must first register for World ID by providing a phone number or an iris scan. The developers claim that the project does not store user data. Instead, it generates a zero-knowledge proof to verify that the user is human, but without revealing the data used to create the proof.

Even users who do not have a World ID can still use the app, but cannot take advantage of the free transactions. The notice says the app relies on account abstraction to enable third-party gas payments.

The project has partnered with regulated crypto exchanges, including Moonpay and Ramp, to offer wallet onboarding and offboarding. Once the coins are held in the wallet, they can be exchanged through the built-in Uniswap integration. Users can also connect their phone numbers to the app and send and receive cryptocurrencies through phone contacts.

Speaking to Cointelegraph, Worldcoin Core team member Tiago Sada said the wallet was created to offer a simple option for inexperienced cryptocurrency users.

“When we started, we were really just going with normal wallets, wallets that a power user like me would use every day, and it turned out to be too overwhelming for normal people. There were too many options, too many things to do, [it was] it’s not entirely clear,” he said. “We’re launching [World App] as a product, so there is this alternative wallet focused on simplicity.”

Worldcoin was co-founded by Sam Altman, who also co-founded ChatGPT developer OpenAI.
