The Canadians who yearn for those famous Swedish meatballs of the Inter Ikea BV systems are a pleasant surprise since the retailer is temporarily reducing food prices to help with the growing cost of living.
IKEA recently announced that it is reducing its restaurant prices from Monday to Friday by half for some dishes until the end of August, while children eat free on Wednesdays. Customers must have an IKEA family card to get discounts.
The measure is intended to “help people stretch their budgets, nurture their families and find a little more joy,” said the retailer.
“Ensuring the lowest possible price for our products is always our maximum objective, and this is even more important in the times of economic uncertainties and cost of living pressures,” said Tolga Öncü, Retail Manager of Ikea Retail Ingka, in a press release.
The company says that a family of four in France will now pay 6.96 euros ($ 11.12 CAD) for a meal and a coupon of 5 euros, compared to the previous price of 19.9 euros ($ 31.63 CAD).
Food inflation has been a persistent problem in Canada, after having climbed a huge 31 percent since 2019, according to Nerdwallet Canada.
The prices of food bought in stores rose 2.8 percent year after year in June, according to Statistics Canada, exceeding general inflation for the month.
Ikea stores in Canada, Austria, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom are included in the promotion.
