British manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover said he will stop US shipments for a month, as he evaluates the impact of the tariffs of US President Donald Trump on vehicle imports.
It occurs when the interruption of the Trump Roils Global Stock Administration Rate and sends shock waves through the automotive industry.
The president of the United States has implemented a 25% tariff on all foreign cars imported to the country, a measure that entered into force on Thursday. The White House also said it intends to place tariffs in some automatic parts no later than May 3.
“While we work to address the new commercial terms with our business partners, we are promulgating our short -term planned actions, including a shipping pause in April, since we developed our long -term plans,” said a spokesman for Jaguar Land Rover to CNBC by email on Sunday.
Jaguar Land Rover, which is one of the largest car manufacturers in Great Britain, described the United States as “an important market” for the company’s luxury brands.
A growing commercial war is expected to have a deep impact on the global automotive industry, particularly given the high globalization of supply chains and the great dependence on manufacturing operations in North America.
In fact, in the days since Trump’s automotive rates entered into force, car giants have responded by announcing plans to increase prices, impose import rates, stop production and even fire the staff.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, said his government would react with “fresh and quiet heads” to Trump’s tariffs, with negotiations to reach a possible commercial agreement of the ongoing United States.
Together with a 25% rate on car exports, as well as steel and aluminum products, the United Kingdom was among many of an import service of 10% baseline this week.
