CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp is releasing a large language model of artificial intelligence, which it calls LLaMA, (for Large Language Meta AI) for researchers. The goal is to help scientists and engineers explore applications of this technology.
Zuckerberg noted that large language AI models “have shown a lot of promise in generating text, conversations, summarizing written material, and more complex tasks such as solving mathematical sentences or predicting protein structures”. He explained that LLaMA will help advance this work.
Earlier this month, Zuckerberg indicated that the development of artificial intelligence would be a priority for the company this year.
Growing demand
Meta joins rival tech giants Microsoft (MSFT) and alphabets (GOOGLE), which also recently announced new AI projects of its own. Nvidia (NVDA), which recently produces chips for AI he recently said that business demand for these products is rising sharply. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said activity around AI services “has gone through the roof.”
