Operai has received a $ 200 million contract to provide the United States Department of Defense Artificial Intelligence tools.
The department announced the contract of one year on Monday, months after Operai said he would collaborate with the Anduril Defense Technology startup to display advanced AI systems for “national security missions.”
“According to this award, the artist will develop prototype abilities of the border to address the critical challenges of national security both in war domains and in the company,” said the Department of Defense. It is the first contract with OpenAi that appears on the website of the Department of Defense.
Anduril received a defense contract of $ 100 million in December. Weeks before, Operai Anthrope’s rival said he would work with Palantir and Amazon To supply their AI models to the US defense and intelligence agencies.
Sam Altman, co -founder and CEO of Openai, said in a discussion with the member of the Board of Openai and former leader of the National Security Agency Paul Nakasone at an event of the University of Vanderbilt in April that “we have to and we are proud and we really want to participate in national security areas.”
In a blog post, Openai said the contract represents the first agreement in a new initiative called OpenAI for the Government, which includes the existing Chatgpt Gov product. Operai for the Government will give US government agencies.
“This contract, with a $ 200 million ceiling, will bring the leading experience of the OpenAI industry to help the defense department identify and prototypes of how Frontier AI can transform its administrative operations, from improving how the members of the service and their families obtain medical attention, to rationalize how they look at the program and the acquisition data, until supporting the proactive cyber defense,” the company said. “All cases of use must be consistent with the policies and guidelines for the use of OpenAI.”
The Department of Defense specified that the contract is with the Public Sector of OpenAi LLC, and that the work will occur mainly in the region of the national capital, covered by Washington, DC and several nearby counties in Maryland and Virginia.
Meanwhile, Operai is working to build an additional computer power in the US. In January, Altman appeared with President Donald Trump in the White House to announce the Stargate project of $ 500 billion to build an infrastructure of AI in the United States.
The new contract will represent a small portion of income in OpenAI, which generates more than $ 10 billion in annualized sales. In March, the company announced a financing round of $ 40 billion with an assessment of $ 300 billion.
In April, MicrosoftThat supplies OpenAI cloud infrastructure, said that the United States Defense Information System Agency has authorized the use of Azure OpenAi service with classified secret information.
