Patrick Mahomes talks about Throne Coffee Investment, 18 NFL Games

The field marshal of the Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, added “coffee entrepreneur” to his curriculum already filled.

The three -time Super Bowl champion has invested in Throne Sport Coffee, which adds to the 29 -year -old superstar portfolio out of the field.

As his bosses and the rest of the NFL prepare for the next season, Mohamses spoke with CNBC about his interest in coffee, his growing portfolio of investment in sports properties, stadium policy in Kansas City and his opinion about a NFL season of 18 games.

Invert in their coffee habit

Mahomes became the second largest investor in Throne Sport Coffee in May 2024, with an unveiled participation.

Today, it is not only an investor, but also the main launch of the brand and the product tester, and a daily drinker.

“Actually it began in my first year at the NFL,” Mohamces told CNBC about his coffee habit. “I was in many meetings, and coffee became a functional need. But then I really began to love it, especially black coffee.”

When the founder, the CEO and veteran of the beverage industry, Mike Fedele, approached him with an option ready to drink designed to be a healthier caffeine impulse, said he felt like a natural adjustment for him.

“I really fell in love with the flavor and tried to make sure that what I was putting in my body was good,” Mohamses said.

Fedele, who has worked with the main brands such as Coca-Cola and Bodyarmor, said Throne stands out because it has 10 grams of protein and 40% less sugar than competitors. Throne Sport Coffee has about 50 calories with 1 gram of sugar.

As a comparison, a frappuccino of Starbucks ready to drink can have up to 300 calories and 47 grams of sugar.

“Given the frequency with which people who care about what they are putting in their bodies consume coffee, I felt that it had to be better for your option,” he said.

Mohomes said that his daily caffeine habit includes three coffees a day: one when he wakes up, another before meetings and a third before the afternoon preparation.

“It is probably too much,” he laughed, “but with the throne, I know that I am putting something clean in my body, without garbage, without sugar and aggregate electrolytes and vitamins B.”

In game days? He said he reduces it to only one or two.

The coffee market for drinking is a rapid growth category. The Americans spent $ 17.7 billion in the category in 2023, according to Technomic.

Despite its growth prospects, Throne is competing in a coffee space full of people, with coffee shops competitors completing their offer ready to drink. Starbucks announced this week that it is expanding its alignment ready to drink, citing the latest consumer trends and category growth.

Throne is just a part of the growing mahomes investment portfolio. The three -time MVP of the Super Bowl also has minority stakes in Kansas City Reales of MLB, Sporting Kansas City of the MLS and the KC current of NWSL, along with Alpine F1.

“I love sports. I love how people unite: families, communities. In that I want to invest,” said Mohamses.

So does that mean that you are looking at a future property participation in the Chiefs?

“That would be great,” he said. “Hopefully it will be a long time from now on, but I would love to be part of the team after having finished playing. They have done a lot for me.”

Stadium policy and football business

The future of the Chiefs Stadium is still undecided, since the franchise decides whether to renew the Arrowhead stadium or build a new stadium in Kansas. Mohomes did not say where I would prefer to play the team.

“Arrowhead is special. You feel the story. But wherever we touch, fans will appear,” he said.

Recently, the bosses were granted a one -year extension to make a decision about their future stadium.

In Liga League issues, Mohomes said it is cautious about the proposals for an NFL season of 18 games and international expansion, including the game of week 1 of the Chiefs in Brazil.

“More games are difficult for the body. If we are going to 18, we need more weeks. The same with international games, affairs planning.”
