DETROIT— stellantis is delaying the launch of its Ram electric pickup trucks from this year to the first half of 2025, as the transatlantic automaker continues testing the vehicles.
CEO Carlos Tavares on Tuesday declined to reveal details about the cause of the delays or the specific timing of the electric trucks, which include an all-electric “REV” model and an extended-range “Ramcharger” that is equipped with a generator. electric and a gasoline engine. .
“We are facing a very significant workload and we want to be very prudent in the way we validate products, so we take our time and make sure we manage the peak,” Tavares said during an online press conference. event. “We don't want to rush… It's better to take a few more weeks to properly validate than to rush and then make mistakes in terms of quality. Tavares said work needs to be completed on the Dodge Charger Daytona and Jeep Wagoneer S electric vehicles, which are expected to launch later this year, before moving on to the new trucks.
Stellantis' upcoming electric trucks are the first to be built on the company's new “STLA Frame platform” for its larger Jeep trucks and SUVs. It is expected to be a “multi-energy platform” capable of hosting internal combustion and hybrid engines, as well as electric models using batteries, fuel cells and extended-range electric propulsion systems.
Stellantis has said the Ramcharger extended-range electric vehicle can operate as a zero-emissions electric vehicle until the battery is depleted and an onboard electric generator, powered by a 3.6-liter, 27-gallon V6 engine, is activated to power the vehicle.
The automaker on Tuesday reconfirmed plans for the REV to be capable of 500 miles on a single charge, as well as the Ramcharger's expected class-leading range of up to 690 miles.
