The Pentagon has contracted Inca Digital for a security-focused digital asset mapping tool

Digital asset data analytics firm Inca Digital will study the national security implications of digital assets under a one-year contract with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). he announced on Friday. DARPA is the research and development arm of the United States Department of Defense.

Inca Digital will be working on a project called “Mapping the Impact of Digital Financial Assets,” which aims to create a “cryptocurrency ecosystem mapping tool” that will provide information to the US government and commercial enterprises.

In addition to investigating possible money laundering and sanctions evasion, the project will contribute to understanding the interactions between traditional and digital financial systems, the flow of money to and from blockchain systems, and other uses of cryptocurrency in areas that concern the US government. The CEO of Inca Digital, Adam Zarazinsky, stated in the announcement:

“The Department of Defense and other federal agencies need to have better tools to understand how digital assets work and how to exercise their jurisdiction over digital asset markets around the world.”

DARPA Program Manager Mark Flood he said The Washington Post: “DARPA is not involved in the surveillance. I emphasize that we are careful in this research not to get involved in personally identifiable information.”

DARPA dealt with blockchain technology for several years, both for its security implications and as a potential tool for its own purposes. In June, it partnered with Trail of Bits analyze to what extent blockchains they are decentralized and identify their weak points.

Inca received the Small Business Innovation Research for the Phase II project. Company is the developer of Nakamoto Terminal, a system used by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission to oversee the market. It was founded by former Interpol analysts in 2009.
