Fundstrat Global Advisors founder Tom Lee highlights five must-own stocks from his Granny Shots portfolio that have beaten the market roughly five years in a row. The Granny Shots Portfolio is a distillation of over 30 of Fundstrat’s best stock ideas. Since its inception in 2019, the portfolio has outperformed the S&P 500, gaining 133%, while the broader index has climbed 58%, according to the site. This year, Granny Shots is up 8.3%, better than the S&P 500’s gain of 7.4%. The portfolio is named after a simple basketball shooting method that is considered high reward with low risk. But on Tuesday, Lee unveiled Super Grannies for investors wondering which stocks in his Granny Shots portfolio to buy first. These are five stocks he considers the best of the best. Here is a selection. Fortinet was named Super Grandmother. Fundstrat’s Mark Newton said cybersecurity stocks could climb to new highs, even after rising 39% this year, although he expects some challenges ahead. “Currently, it seems likely that FTNT may show some slowdown in June or pause briefly if/when it reaches earlier highs,” Newton wrote. “However, without any material evidence of technical weakness, it’s hard not to buy the dips for any upcoming consolidation. Overall, the expectation is that a return to new all-time highs could occur in the 2nd half of this year.” Monster Beverage was also highlighted from the list, with Newton saying the stock remains “one of the best technical names” among consumer staples after rising 14% this year. “Overall, MNST’s relative outperformance compared to many other Granny Shot names makes this mid-term attractive, and if that happens, buy the dip should be considered,” he wrote. “Any return to the low-to-mid $50s would make MNST more attractive from a technical perspective.” Elsewhere, Of all the semiconductor names, On Semiconductor has “consistently demonstrated superior technical structure”, according to Newton. “Until/if ON starts to show signs of medium-term trend deterioration, it is considered the best candidate in the semiconductor space and appears to be a better technical risk/reward than NVDA at this time,” he wrote. Other names are Fiserv and Intuitive Surgical.
