President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday that imposed a 50% tariff on Brazil’s imports. The order occurs only two days before a deadline of August 1 that Trump had established at the beginning of the month and will not be implemented for seven more days.

The announcement had a positive side for US consumers who could face higher prices. It excluded a wide range of products, including orange juice, brazil, fuel, metals and electronics.

In particular, coffee was not on the list of exempt products. Brazil is the largest coffee producer in the world and provided about 30% of all coffee beans imported to the United States last year.

The United States had a commercial surplus with Brazil last year, according to the United States commercial representative, with exports that are close to $ 50 billion and import higher than $ 42 billion.
