Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller is scheduled to speak before the Council on Foreign Relations in New York on Friday at 1 p.m. Afterwards, CNBC’s Steve Liesman will lead a question and answer session.

Waller’s remarks are the last before Fed officials enter a blackout period before Jan. 31 and Feb. 31. 1 policy meeting. Markets generally expect the Federal Open Market Committee, which sets rates, to raise its benchmark interest rate another quarter of a percentage pointbringing it to a target range of 4.5%–4.75%.

Other Fed officials have said in recent days that they think rates still need to go up, but in smaller increments than the hike that raised the Fed rate by 4.25 percentage points in 2022.
